Every CS2 skin belongs to a collection, which quietly decides what an upgrade can do. In a Valve trade-up, the collection sets which skins you can win and at what odds. Why a Skin’s Collection Sets Your Options
A collection is the group a skin was released in, whether a weapon case or a map’s souvenir set. Each collection contains skins across several rarity tiers. How Float Ranges Travel Through a Contract
A collection also carries the float ranges of its skins, which decide the exterior you end up with. A trade-up does not pass float through directly. It normalizes each input’s float within its own range, averages the results, and maps that average onto the output skin’s range. The calculation breaks down into three steps.
- Normalize each input float within its skin’s minimum and maximum.
- Average the ten normalized values.
- Map that average onto the output skin’s float range.
An AK-47 Redline at 0.15, in its 0.10 to 0.70 range, normalizes to about 0.08. Feeding ten inputs at that level into an output range of 0.00 to 0.50 produces a result near 0.04, placing the skin in Factory New condition. A skin’s float range is as important as its float, so the collection you draw from sets the exteriors within reach.
What Collections Mean for a CS2 Upgrader
A third-party cs2 upgrader is not bound to a collection the way a Valve contract is, since you can aim your items at almost any target. The collection still guides the choice. It tells you the target’s rarity siblings, the float range you would receive, and whether the skin comes from a small or retired set with limited trading activity.
